Sheffield residents invited to comment on Further Main Modifications to the Sheffield Plan

The consultation on proposed Further Main Modifications to the Sheffield Plan has been extended until 5pm on Wednesday 28th October 2026.

The Sheffield Plan is the city’s long-term blueprint for growth and development, guiding where new homes, jobs, transport links and community facilities will be located up to 2039.

Following the submission of the draft Sheffield Plan to Government in 2023 and a series of public consultations and examination hearings, Planning Inspectors have identified a number of additional changes, known as Further Main Modifications, which they consider necessary to ensure the Plan is sound and legally compliant.

Residents, businesses and stakeholders are now invited to review the proposed changes and submit comments as part of the latest consultation.

What can you comment on?

Representations can be made on:

• The Schedule of Proposed Further Main Modifications to the Sheffield Plan
• Consequential changes to the Policies Map
• The Integrated Impact Assessment and Sustainability Appraisal update
• The Habitats Regulations Assessment: Appropriate Assessment Review (2026)

The Inspectors will only consider comments that relate directly to these documents and proposed changes.

How to take part

The consultation runs from 14th September to 28th October 2026.

Comments can be submitted through the online consultation portal using the Survey or Make a Representation options. Participants will need to register before submitting comments.

All responses received during the consultation period will be passed to the Planning Inspectors for consideration.
