We want to connect people to our beautiful countryside in the Peak District and South Yorkshire.
To celebrate our beautiful national park, we’ve devised a 200-mile walking route around its boundary.
We have welcomed the first instalment of Sheffield’s local plan
Planning is NOT an obstacle to progress, nor to building the homes we need.

Our daughter wants to be an Explorer when she grows up. Great to see her confidence on her feet growing today in #CheeDale. They'll take her far... @DerbysWildlife @CPREDerbyshire @cprepdsy
Clean air. We breathe it in abundance on the wilder edges of @theoutdoorcity. But elsewhere in the city there are illegally high levels of nitrogen dioxide. Now @SheffCouncil has bold plans to tackle the problem through tariffs on some polluting vehicles. https://sheffnews.com/news/clean-air-zone-decision-on-the-way-as-council-sets-out-pollution-plan?utm_content=&utm_medium=email&utm_name=&utm_source=govdelivery&utm_term=
Some striking kestrel shots here from our chairperson, @jparrylrc. So often seen at a distance on the wing, but often reluctant to stay still long enough for shots like this.
Congratulations to @mazymixer - a worthy @Campaign4Parks People's Choice winner with this remarkable shot of a thought-provoking Hope valley vista that we know so well. Pushing the limits of mobile photography in its framing and composition.
It’s time to see a budget that really puts the climate at its heart. 💚
Read our response to the government's long awaited net-zero carbon strategy ahead of #COP26.
Proud to be part of this. 💚
We need healthy soil for the supply of food and clean water, and to help us lock up carbon to tackle the climate emergency. https://twitter.com/ffinlocostain/status/1450770693948420096
Doesn’t time fly?! Is it really 10 years since the wonderful Woodland Discovery Centre opened its doors in Ecclesall Woods? Many Happy Returns. Cherished woodland on our doorsteps in @theoutdoorcity - perfect for autumn leaf swishing, and of course a cafe cuppa afterwards.
swans, serenity and the oddness of the place name Water-cum-Jolly: Derbyshire diary this day in the Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/oct/19/country-diary-two-mute-swans-are-serene-in-the-falling-darkness
Any tips, anyone??
Big congrats to our colleagues at @WildSheffield on yet another award for their exceptional stewardship of Wyming Brook. We're so blessed in @theoutdoorcity to have treasures like this on our doorstep - a white water gorge within just a few miles of the city centre... 1/2
Spider season. Anyone round our way been startled by a Giant House Spider sprinting across the living room carpet in search of autumn warmth?
Walked any of our Peak District Boundary Walk recently …. ?? 🍄🍁🍂🥾
Indeed. Very fine words from Aidan Stone of @OldSheffield, and from @paulbesleywrite as well. At the risk of appearing immodest, we’d like to think that our forbears did their bit to try to keep things this way…
"Our Finalists all give us hope which, we are told, springs eternal. But we don’t have eternity. We need to do this now. And over the next ten years, if we all put our minds to it, I believe we can."
— #EarthshotPrize Council Member Sir David Attenborough
Another lovely set of sunrise photos from our chairperson Julie. Up with the lark and out with the camera every day to celebrate the countryside she strives to cherish and protect. We love the shot of the bird on a post here.
Very kind words from @NorthWestFOE about last night's event. With everyone's help, we hope to build broad support for ideas like these. Better, we think, than digging up countryside to build bigger roads for more traffic. We need solutions that address #ClimateEmergency urgently.
Thanks to all who took part in our "Green Travel Challenge" online conversation last night. Your input really helps us and our transport consultant Keith Buchan (seen here) to develop sustainable alternatives to the traffic congestion nightmare round Longdendale and Glossopdale.
