Share Your Views on Proposed Changes to the Sheffield Plan

29th May 2025

Sheffield residents are invited to provide feedback on proposed changes to the draft Sheffield Plan, which has been submitted to the Government for public examination. These changes follow a request for the Council to identify additional land for housing and employment use.

To accommodate future growth, the proposals include the release of some land from the Green Belt. According to the Council, all available brownfield sites have already been allocated, and the Green Belt sites under consideration make up 3.6% of the total Green Belt area.

The proposals include fourteen additional sites for development which, if adopted, would aim to deliver nearly 4,000 new homes and over 67 hectares of employment land.

A six-week public consultation will take place from 29th May until 11th July 2025. During this period, feedback will be collected and reviewed by independent Government Inspectors.

Find out about the consultation

The focus of this consultation is to allow representations on the soundness and legal compliance of the fourteen additional site allocations before they are submitted to the Inspectors for consideration through the Sheffield Plan Examination. These sites are located within the Green Belt.
