On this page you’ll find useful information about the General Election on 4th July, along with links to resources which you may find helpful.

At CPRE Peak District and South Yorkshire we believe that the countryside is for everyone, wherever they live. We want a beautiful, thriving countryside for everyone to enjoy.

From jobs to wellbeing, energy to housing, education to climate change, it’s important to use your vote in the election and take a stand for the issues which matter most to you.

To vote in a General Election you must:

  • be registered to vote Register to vote – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
  • be 18 or over on the day of the election (‘polling day’)
  • be a British, Irish or qualifying Commonwealth citizen
  • be resident at an address in the UK or living abroad and registered as an overseas voter
  • not be legally excluded from voting

Key dates for the General Election

  • Register to vote by 18 June 11.59pm
  • If you want to apply for a postal vote online, you must apply by 5pm on 19 June 2024
  • If you want to apply for your proxy vote online, you must apply by 5pm on 26 June 2024
  • Apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate by 26 June 5pm (applies for anyone without valid ID)

Remember to take your ID when you vote in person at your local polling station

  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Older or disabled person’s bus pass
