Stories from the Archive: Gerald Haythornthwaite’s Countryside Campaigns

This video tells the story of Gerald Haythornthwaite and his campaign work for the CPRE from the day he was interviewed by his future wife, Ethel. Campaigns included the Sheffield Green Belt, creating the Peak District National Park, promoting the use of natural stone for Peak District buildings, and his role as Chair of the National Park Planning Committee.

It is based on archive photographs and oral history interviews undertaken from February to April 2020. Some interviews were conducted via video conferencing software due to Covid-19.
